On June 9, 2015, 44 students from Grade 7 of the International Department went to Huairou Shentangyu for outdoor survival training under the guidance of their teachers。This outward training is a deep practical experience activity combined with the youth survival legend novel Hatchet (Hand Axe Boy) learned in the language arts class。In the novel Hatchet, Brian, the hero, is trapped deep in the uninhabited virgin forest of Canada, and he must learn to face this predicament alone, using his wits and hands to build a shelter and find food in order to survive。

At 8:15 in the morning, the teachers and students set out, and arrived at the simulated camp training site at Shentangyu after a two-hour drive。The accompanying five Chinese and foreign teachers set up five theme sites, each group of nine students, and conducted 20 minutes of intensive training at each site。Training topics include: how to light a bonfire, how to signal for emergency help, how to give first aid care, how to carry an injured person with bare hands, how to tie a knot。

After a light lunch, the children nervously dive into the afternoon's outreach activities。First, each team used the skills learned in Hatchet to build their own shelter in the wild。After a short rest, we also played the traditional European and American sports game that the children love very much - Capture the flag.。After a sweaty battle, we began to chop wood, build a fire, and prepare our campfire dinner。Each student put peanut oil on their tin foil, put potatoes, carrots, Onions, green peppers, chicken, pork and other foods, and then pour their favorite seasonings and wrap them, and finally put them on the fire。

After a delicious barbecue dinner, the students worked together to make a popular American traditional campfire dessert with graham crackers, chocolate sauce and toasted marshmallows。In the midst of laughter and laughter, everyone cleaned up the site and set foot on the way back。Due to the heavy traffic on the road, the teachers and students arrived at the school safely at 8:15 PM, ending the whole day's outward bound training。

Such a rich and fulfilling nature experience journey not only allows children to have a personal experience of what they have learned in the classroom, but also allows them to understand the ubiquitous application of knowledge in real life situations, and have a deeper understanding and feeling of survival in the wild。
